February General Membership Meeting: Promoting Financial Inclusion by Creating Relevance thru e-Money innovations
“Mobile is about behavior and utility; it is the only gadget that is with the consumer 24/7 (more intimate and closer that your spouse).” Such is how Mr. Lito M. Villanueva, head of e-Money Innovation, Strategy, Ecosystem Development & Global Engagements for SMART Communications, Inc., described mobile communications during his presentation on BMAP’s First General Membership Meeting.
Mr. Villanueva also talked about how SMART Communications has created strategies to maximize the use of mobile phones by developing payment strategies in cooperation with various banking entities, and government and private institutions. Some of the recent and notable initiative programs of SMART e-Money include: the mobile cash transfer deployment in calamity stricken areas, CCT (Conditional Cash Transfer) cash grant disbursement in places beyond the reach of ATMs or payout centers, mobile-based prepaid electricity top-up, load as P2G payment of frontline government services, mobile-based incentivized credit, livelihood and savings-linked CCT program called Panalo SIKAP (Sa Ipon at Kabuhayan Aahon ka Pinoy), card protection through the “Lock by Mobile” system, and others. Bank partners with SMART Communications to further expand the reach of these programs, making the Philippines globally-advanced in terms of financial transactions.
